Case pack

What is case pack?

A case pack is the number of units a manufacturer packs into one case or carton, such as 12 tubes of caulk or 100 connectors. Distributors buy and often sell in case-pack multiples, because opening a case costs labor and leaves loose stock to track.

How it works

When a customer orders less than a full case, some distributors add a broken-case charge or round the quantity up to the next full case. A wrong case pack in the item record causes unit-of-measure errors on both purchase and sales orders.

Case pack example

An order line reads 30 tubes, and the case pack is 24. The CSR asks whether the customer would rather take 24 or 48 than pay the broken-case charge on 30.
